Nokomis Soundproof Curtains FAQ
Are you unsure about the effectiveness of a soundproof curtain, what size to choose, or how to install it? This FAQ answers the most common questions before you order a Nokomis soundproof and thermal curtain.
Acoustic efficiency
Does a soundproof curtain completely block out noise?
No. A soundproof curtain helps reduce noise pollution, but it does not make a room completely silent. The result depends on the curtain, the installation, the glazing, the seals, the roller shutter box, and any air leaks.
What does âup to -28.2 dBâ mean?
This value corresponds to a measurement obtained in a laboratory under specific test conditions. It should not be interpreted as a guaranteed reduction in all rooms.
Nokomis curtains tested in a laboratory?
Yes. The stated acoustic performance values apply to the multilayer composite tested by Daidalos Peutz in accordance with ISO 10140.
Price, Evidence, and Actual Performance
Why are soundproof curtains cheaper online?
Some products are standardized models, featuring a lighter construction and a strong marketing pitch. They can enhance aesthetic, thermal, or light-blocking comfort, but should not be confused with a proven soundproofing solution.
Why Nokomis a Nokomis curtain more expensive?
The price is due to the multi-layer construction, the double-sided finish, laboratory-tested performance, technical traceability, inventory, installation guidance, and customer service.
Should we compare only the advertised decibel levels?
No. A decibel reading is only meaningful if it is accompanied by the name of a specific laboratory, a measurement protocol, a test configuration, and an explanation of the limitations in real-world conditions.

Dimensions and Installation
What width should I choose?
The width should be slightly greater than the opening to be covered. An overhang on each side helps minimize sound leakage from the sides.
Should I choose a Track eyelets?
To achieve the best coverage, installing the material on Track generally preferable. The eyelets are simple and attractive, but the corrugations reduce the actual width covered.
Can the roller shutter box reduce efficiency?
Yes. Roller shutter boxes are often acoustic weak points. If a significant amount of noise is coming through the box, additional soundproofing may be necessary.
Does a soundproof curtain replace double-paned windows?
No. The soundproof curtain is a complementary or alternative solution that does not require major construction work. The glazing, seals, and air leaks remain key factors.
